Week 8 Blog 8

This assignment lines up perfectly with my 7th grade self-portraits. I will be showing them all my steps. I started with a pencil drawing of myself, a flower (a symbol of grow, that I usually use as a symbol of my daugther) and a quick drawing of some of my 7th grade students. I then photographed each drawing and digitally blended them with some of my student's artwork. I also included my teaching philosophy overlapping a photo of my daughter finger painting. The final piece is 16x20 which I will be getting printed on canvas.
I think this portrait represents my teaching life perfectly. I am all over the place, crazy chaos!

  1. Adair, I like the way you pulled in many aspects of your whole self, especially your daughter and students. When my girls were smaller they routinely appeared in my own work as well because their growth and their emerging personalities were such an amazing process to see. I felt that way (and still do) about my students, all of them.
You are very adept with the computer! I could learn a lot form you Im sure. Would love to know how to do the overlays and understand the process. What program are you using?

  2. Wow! You evidently know your way around Photoshop. Your self portrait depicts you nicely and the colors go together well (I love color). I really like that you included your student's work as well. Great idea! My only minor complaint is that I can't properly read your teaching philosophy. Could you shift yourself and the letters to the left more? Maybe even have them overlap into your drawing? I like how the child's hand have chipped paint. :) Overall, this is absolutely beautiful. Well done!

  3. Amy I used Photoshop Elements. My major for my BA was in Photography but photo editing has always been my favorite part of Digital photography.
Katie I have edited it so you can see my philosophy a little bit more but some is still cut off. I wanted it in the background as it is always in the back of my mind.
    Thank you both
